The Clever Man
And he investigated with the help of his intelligence
and philosophy the study of medicine since that is always a necessary
and important thing. And for the study of medicine one had to
learn first Latin and its writing and to study philosophy. And he,
because of his intelligence, learned this, too, in a short time, in a
quarter of a year, and became a great doctor and philosopher, and
learned all the sciences. Afterwards the world began to seem like
nothing in his eyes. Because of his wisdom, because he was such a
great craftsman and such a wise man and a doctor, every single person in
the world seemed to him like nothing. He decided to be practical
and to take a wife, and he reflected, "If I take a wife here, who will
know what has become of me? I'll return to my home so that they
will see what has become of me, that I went away as such a small boy and
have now come to such greatness!"
